Tonight at EMMH Postgraduate Forum we welcome Danielle Bergmann, a candidate for the MLitt in Modern History at the University of St Andrews. Danielle will be presenting on ‘The Making of a History of Eastern State Penitentiary’.
Last year Danielle completed her undergraduate degree in History and English at St Andrews, culminating with writing and producing a documentary through the programme ‘Recording the Past’. The documentary followed the history of Eastern State Penitentiary, a state prison in Philadelphia that was operational between 1829 and 1971.
Danielle will share some sections of the documentary and what drew her to the project, followed by an interesting discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of documentary history.
Join us at 5.15pm in St Katherine’s Lodge Room 1.10. Refreshments will be provided, followed by a trip to the Brew Co. to continue discussion.
